An overnight cultural experience on the Homelands of Kakadu Traditional Owners.
The Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp is located on the edge of a billabong complex along beautiful Jim Jim Creek wetlands. A private and unique safari camping experience overlooking the billabong on Murumburr Clan Country.
See Country through Bininj eyes, learn about community life, hear about the buffalo days and the Patonga Homestead story. Enjoy some damper and billy tea with our family as we teach you some of our Men’s and Women’s cultural activities.
Activities can change depending on the seasons and availability of materials, but may include:
- Women’s pandanus weaving – make your own bracelet
- Traditional painting – create your own story to take home
- Men’s didgeridoo playing
- Men’s spear and Borndok (spear thrower) lessons.
Before you leave, be sure to visit our onsite gallery. Your purchase supports our family of talented artists, with sales going directly to them.
Travel to your home in the bush for the evening, Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp. Enjoy dinner under a blanket of stars and share a few stories while you relax by the campfire.
Wake to an orchestra of bird song in the morning and breakfast as you look out over the billabong.
We then say ‘boh boh’ (goodbye) to our Billabong Camp and return to Cooinda Lodge.
